  • Alex Pereira is eyeing to defend his light heavyweight title twice in a row at UFC 300 and UFC 301
  • “Poatan” hopes to also defend his belt in his home soil in Brazil

Alex Pereira is not wasting any time as he plans to make a quick turnaround and defend his light heavyweight title at UFC 301 after headlining UFC 300 against Jamahal Hill.

Poatan is excited

Speaking through a translator in his YouTube channel, “Poatan” expressed his excitement over headlining the biggest UFC event this year. For Pereira, “Sweet Dreams” is a tough opponent but he is confident that he is in great shape and condition to defend his belt.

“We were in talks with the UFC to make this fight happen in Brazil, but then they came up with the idea to bring it a little earlier and make it for the UFC 300. Which for me is pretty good because I’m already been training hard. Doing the fight a bit before expected is even better for me, I’ve been in good shape, I’m training hard, and I’m excited for the fight,” Pereira said.

“I’m really excited about this fight because I think it is a very good matchup. I think it’s gonna be a very hard fight but I’m excited for all the fans,” he added.

300 now, 301 next

Pereira further pointed out that it is a great opportunity to headline UFC 300 as he has always talked about defending his title in a “very fast pace.” With that said, the reigning light heavyweight champion wants to defend his title again at UFC 301, preferably in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

“I always spoke that I wanted to defend the belt in a very fast pace, in a row, two times,” Pereira stated. “Now this would be the opportunity, with these cards being so close to each other, for me to be able to defend at UFC 300 and maybe in Rio [for UFC 301]. That is a very big possibility, because if I don’t get hurt, I did this before in kickboxing. So if everything goes fine I’ll try to defend the belt again very fast.”

The UFC 300 main event has already been finalized but UFC president Dana White previously said that everything could still change overnight. Until then, it seems like everything is going according to how “Poatan” envisions it.
