Mike Brown, coach of Jorge Masvidal wants something exciting for his return.
Over the past few years, UFC welterweight Jorge Masvidal has been one of the most popular fighters in the organization. He rose to stardom with amazing knockouts and an interesting personality. As one of the most popular fighters, Masvidal is also one of the highest-paid. Despite being in demand, Masvidal has been extremely picky lately when it comes to taking fights. He is looking for a big fight his next time out and wants to settle a beef with the reigning champion Leon Edwards.
Masvidal last fought back in March when he faced Colby Covington at UFC 272. Since then he has been dealing with some legal matters stemming from a brawl with Covington outside of the cage. He has also been waiting for a title shot. He is riding a three-fight losing streak and is currently ranked 11th in the division.
Mike Brown, coach of Jorge Masvidal is looking for a big opportunity for his athlete
Masvidal’s coach Mike Brown thinks his athlete still deserves the biggest fights out there. He expressed this in an interview with MMA Junkie.
“I want it to be something exciting, something big, something people get excited about,” Brown said. “There are a lot of guys that would make sense, but I don’t know. Gilbert, Conor, Edwards, whatever. There’s a lot of big ones out there, I think he’s one of the biggest stars in the sport. Put him with any of these guys and you got one of the biggest pay-per-views of all time.”
Masvidal has been asking for the fight with Edwards that was scheduled and then canceled last year. At the time Edwards does not seem interested and has a rematch set with Kamaru Usman in the works. Masvidal was also liked to a possible fight with Gilbert Burns in Brazil, according to Burns.
“He’s in the lab developing techniques, developing skill all the time, that’s what he’s doing,” Brown said. “He’s hard at work right now. I say it all the time, this guy’s got more weapons than anybody, and he’s always developing new tools, new tricks, and that’s exactly what he’s doing now. He’s in the gym drilling more than anybody in there, putting in the work, putting in the time. I mean it’s crazy to think, but he’s developing a lot of new tricks and weapons. Something you wouldn’t expect from a guy 50 fights in, but that’s what makes him so great and that’s what he’s doing right now.”
It seems that Masvidal will be ready whenever he is called on. Who that will be against is yet to be seen.
