UFC heavyweight champion Jon Jones wants to buy UFC welterweight champion Leon Edwards a gift for defeating Colby Covington.

On Saturday night, December 16, Leon Edwards shut down Colby Covington’s game plan to defeat the controversial UFC welterweight by unanimous decision for his second welterweight title defense, extending his unbeaten streak to thirteen fights (one no-contest).

Edwards was deemed a hero following UFC 296 because he denied the infamous Covington of a lifelong goal. The praise mostly came from fans, but several fighters also chimed in, including Jon Jones.

‘Bones’ had this to say on Twitter following Edwards’ win against Covington:

“Leon Edwards , I couldn’t be more happy for you. As an American champion in this game, I salute you, that was truly a job well done. Let me know if I can gift you a motorcycle or something for Christmas. Feel like I owe you one”

Before becoming UFC superstars, Jon Jones and Colby Covington shared a dorm room while wrestling at the Central Iowa Community College. Since then, Covington has spread awful stories about Jones allegedly abusing drugs and getting into trouble, making ‘Chaos’ an enemy of the reigning UFC heavyweight champion.

Leon Edwards responds to Jon Jones’ offer to buy him a gift

Leon Edwards might have acquired fame and wealth by becoming a UFC champion, but that doesn’t mean he’s not interested in a gift from Jon Jones. Following the shoutout from ‘Bones,’ Edwards responded on Twitter with this message:

“Respect G.O.A.T it was easy work. means a lot coming from you. I don’t ride bikes but I will take a rollie tho”

Life is good for Leon Edwards, as he continues to reap the benefits of being the UFC welterweight king. The question is, what’s next for ‘Rocky’?

The most likely option would be Belal Muhammad, who weighed in as the UFC 296 main event backup. With that said, the fight game can be unpredictable, so there are other options to consider, including Shavkat Rakhmonov and lightweight champion Islam Makhachev.

In March 2021, Muhammad and Edwards fought in a non-title bout. The fight was starting to heat up when ‘Rocky’ landed an illegal eye poke, leading to a no-contest in round two.

Only time will tell if ‘Remember The Name’ finally gets his opportunity to avenge the result and potentially dethrone the reigning 170-pound king.
