Jared Cannonier has been back in training following an MCL injury that forced him to withdraw from his showdown with Khamzat Chimaev at UFC 294. Ahead of his return, “The Killa Gorilla” wants to face “Borz” again or go straight to title contention.

Jared only wants the best and the next best

Speaking to The Schmo, Cannonier admitted that if the UFC is not letting him get a title shot, he is interested in taking on Chimaev because of “Borz’s” stellar resume. For “The Killa Gorilla,” he only deserves the best or the next-best fighter there is as he is also coming in as the best version of himself.

“Yes, everybody’s talking about Khamzat but he has yet to fight a middleweight that’s my only problem with it. The guy is a top-level fighter, he’s definitely shown that in the UFC, he seems to be eager to fight people. So, if they don’t give me the champ, when I come back I’ll be more than happy to get that fight going again. Absolutely,” Cannonier said.

“Me versus the best! and if you don’t want to give me the best, give me whoever you feel like is next!,” he pointed out. “Cause I want to fight the champ! the belt’s going to be mine! it’s coming! it’s going to happen soon! So uh get ready next time, the last time I broke a record, I look way better than I did the last time! Next time out I’m going to look miles ahead of that last person.”

Jared is in a good position

Looking at the current middleweight rankings, it’s safe to say Cannonier is in a good place if he is really aiming for a title shot. He is now sitting at No. 4 and a win over an undefeated fighter like Chimaev would surely put his name into the title equation.

As it stands, Cannonier is coming off back-to-back victories over fellow top middleweights. He beat Marvin Vettori via unanimous decision and also scored a split decision win over now-former 185-pound king Sean Strickland.

As for Chimaev, it is yet to be known if he would be the next middleweight title challenger.
