James Cagney’s BJJ was much better than yours

You may have heard of James Cagney from every old-school mobster movie imaginable. Angels with Dirty Faces has to go down as one of the most politically incorrect, inappropriate flicks that ever emerged from the 1930s. The final shoot-out is bullet for bullet one of the greatest scenes to ever come out of Hollywood (Alright Matrix, you can get in there too). James Cagney proved that he was pretty handy with the steel but the dude’s Brazilian jiu-jitsu was remarkable. Check him out in the 1945 movie Blood of the Sun where he not only goes for a classic Gracie jiu-jitsu armbar but he finishes the other guy in a rear naked choke. Old school Hollywood comes through once again. [Source]

  1. I’ll agree that Cagney’s judo was excellent & he did exhibit good fighting skills in the film…but arm bars, ground fighting and mixing martial arts existed long before the Gracies and their mighty marketing machine
