Jake Shields replacing Belfort in Santiago fight

This past few days have been like the vietnam of MMA news weeks. A grenade was thrown in our face when it was semi-confirmed that Kimbo Slice was knocked out in 46 seconds on the new season of The Ultimate Fighter. So as we were pulling the shrapnel from our eyelids, we stepped on a few loose leaves and fell into a booby trap that was the reported death of your boy Kimo Leopoldo. Royce Gracie finally could rest easy for the first time in 15 years, but then the entire MMA world climbed out of that BS pit trap they fell in only to realize that Kimo Leopoldo was still alive! Dude was just sleeping! So as we were dusting ourselves off, we stepped on a landmine that was Alistair Overeem dropping out of the Strikeforce: Carano/Cyborg card due to an injury he received in a bathroom fight inside of a Dutch nightclub. So after we reattached our legs to the rest of our body, everything seemed good until we caught a sniper bullet directly to the dome. Josh Barnett was caught dosing with steroids and that he’s wiped from the Affliction 3 card against Fedor. Blood is flowing all over everything, we did’t know what’s going on. People were speculating that Bobby Lashley could take the spot…even Tito Ortiz was rumored to replace Barnett. Late last night it was confirmed that Vitor Belfort would replace Josh Barnett by none other than The Prodigy himself, BJ Penn. So you would think the WTF train stops here? Not at all, it keeps on going…

Now it’s rumored that Jake Shields will replace Vitor Belfort in the Jorge Santiago fight he was scheduled to participate in during the Affliction card. Finally, things are starting to make sense. Jake Shields hasn’t lost a fight in five years and technically he’s still the first (and last) EliteXC Welterweight Champion (RIP EliteXC). Hopefully this will be confirmed today in the super secret Affliction conference call that I will be a part of (It’s good being friends with millionares). Until then, everyone just relax and take it easy. The week is almost over. [Source]
