Rising Prospect Israel “The Last Stylebender” Adesanya Says A Superfight With Jon Jones Is A Real Possibility
Israel Adesanya made his UFC debut back in 2018, but in that short period he has already amassed five straight wins and become the hottest prospect in the promotion. Adesanya incites everyone’s attention like nobody in the MMA world through his amazing performances.
One top fight Jon Jones, who’s coming off a decision win at UFC 235 has been impressed by Adesanya’s bodywork, said he got a feeling him and Israel will fight each other down the road. People have been comparing Adesanya with Jones saying the 29-year old has a similar physique and fight IQ. ‘Bones’ is aware of those comments and already eyes a super fight with him.
A long-discussed super fight between Jones and Anderson Silva never came to fruition when both athletes were at the peak of their career. Nigerian-born New Zealander said he’s confident that a fight between him and light heavyweight kingpin will happen. (h/t MMAMania)
“Jones and Silva have spoken about fighting each other for years as well, but that never came to fruition,” Adesanya told the gang at Submission Radio. “This I feel is different. So yeah, I look forward to that challenge as well.”
‘The Last Stylebender’ is slated to face Kelvin Gastelum for the interim middleweight strap in the co-main event of UFC 236 on April 13th. If Adesanya wins, then he’ll need to unify the title against Robert Whittaker later this year.
Meanwhile, Jones needs to take care of light heavyweight contender, Thiago Santos next as well any other top contender in the division before taking on Adesanya.
Regardless of when this fight happens, Jones is the smart one already taking notice of the rise of Adesanya in the UFC.
“That shows you how serious they’re taking me, the smart ones, how much they know I’m a threat, how serious they’re taking me,” Adesanya said. “Like, [Jones] mentioned it on fight week of 235 or whatever, and then I went back two weeks prior on messages with Eugene when I put the question out there, how are we going to beat Jon Jones? And he kind of just laid down the rough blueprint. And I blurred a lot of it out, but yeah, we’re focusing on Gastelum.”
