- Israel Adesanya got emotional watching Jamahal Hill win the light heavyweight strap at UFC 283
- Izzy’s team thinks he deserves a rematch despite his history with Alex Pereira
Isreal Adesanya tuned in to UFC 283 main event and watched closely how Jamahal Hill outclassed Glover Teixeira to become the new light heavyweight champion. Hill was reduced to tears after winning the belt and Izzy could relate to the burst of the emotion of “Sweet Dreams.”
Only champs know
While watching Hill be hailed as the new light heavyweight champion, Adesanya got emotional too and said:
“That sh*t right there. Very few could understand.”
Adesanya is no stranger to winning the belt, having copped the UFC middleweight strap after beating Robert Whittaker in their unification bout at UFC 243. When asked how special was it to see Hill experience the same, “The Last Stylebender” explained:
“Very special. Crazy. Because I said, only few, very few humans will understand that feeling. Even watching Jamahal Hill go through it, I was getting chills watching him. And to get to that point in a fight like that..He’s dominating but to get to the fifth round, you’re trying to put this guy away, he’s not going away…And some people can fold under that kind of pressure, but he didn’t. He stayed true…He’s crying, emotional, it’s f***ing beautiful man.”
Looking to become champ again
Needless to say, Adesanya fancies becoming a UFC champion once again. It can be recalled that after defending his title five times, Izzy lost to his ultimate nemesis Alex Pereira at UFC 281.
Pereira has beaten Adesanya in all of their meetings, twice in kickboxing and once in MMA. Nevertheless, Izzy’s coach Eugene Bareman is certain his pupil still deserves a rematch.
On the other hand, Hill is now waiting for his first light heavyweight title challenger. Shortly after putting on a striking clinic on Teixeira, “Sweet Dreams” was called out by Jiří Procházka, who lost to Teixeira in their UFC 275 title fight this past June.
