Holly Holm returns to the place that made her famous

Holly Holm will be taking on Raquel Pennington in a rematch at UFC 243 in Melbourne, Australia according to ESPN’s Brett Okamoto.

UFC 243 will be at Marvel Stadium on October 5th and will highlight a middleweight title unification fight between reigning and interim champions Robert Whittaker and Israel Adesanya.

The event will mark the first time that Holly has returned to Australia since her head kick KO victory over Ronda Rousey. The kick around the world that captured Holm the UFC Women’s Bantamweight title back in 2015 at UFC 193.

Since then, Holm has acquired a 2-5 record with 3 of the 7 losses being championship fights for the women’s Bantamweight and Featherweight titles.

Pennington, however, went on a four-fight win streak following her loss to Holm to also earn a title shot. Rocky lost to Amanda Nunes in the championship encounter at UFC 224 and then lost a decision to Germaine de Randamie in her subsequent match at UFC Fight Night 139.

Pennington returned to the win column with her split decision victory over Irene Aldana at UFC on ESPN 4.

Holm and Pennington have history.

Pennington and Holm faced off in the octagon for the very first time at UFC 184 in 2015. Ironically, this was Holm’s debut in the UFC. Holly went on to win the fight via a close split decision.

The fight propelled Holm to then take on and defeat Marion Reneau at UFC Fight Night in 2015. Ultimately, that set up Holly dethroning a long time Bantamweight unstoppable force in Ronda Rousey.

Holm will be looking to repeat success. Australia is the land that brought her one of the most historic moments in women’s MMA history. Pennington will be looking to continue winning after suffering a stint of unfortunate victories.

UFC 243 is also rumored to feature Tai Tuivasa, Megan Anderson, and Nadia Kasseem who all represent Oceania. For more, stay tuned to the Big Red Machine.
