  • Henry Cejudo is not sure whether the UFC was right to book Paddy Pimblett against Tony Ferguson
  • “Triple C” points out why the fight could be a risky move in the part of the promotion

Henry Cejudo is baffled by how the UFC came up with the decision to book a rising star like Paddy Pimblett against an aging yet still deadly veteran in Tony Ferguson. For “Triple C,” the UFC could be making a huge mistake.

It’s a huge risk from a company standpoint

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Cejudo weighed in on the possible aftermath of the upcoming lightweight bout. The way “Triple C” sees it, the UFC could lose one of their biggest draws if “The Baddy” ended up losing to “El Cucuy” and clearly, that is not what they would want to happen.

“To all of us, it’s still a hype train. Does he belong in the top ten? Is Paddy the Baddy that elite fighter that we all think he is and the answer is no, but a win over Tony Ferguson I mean you can say he would have a win over a former interim champ but Tony Ferguson of the pass is long gone,” Cejudo began.

“I think what the UFC’s doing is they understand that maybe Tony Ferguson is the big name, they understand that it’s a fight that’s a wonderful fight for Paddy the Baddy. I’m just trying to understand if Paddy the Baddy loses to Tony Ferguson, does he lose a lot of that type train,” he continued. “… Call me crazy but I think the UFC could probably shoot themselves in the foot on this one. I really do I think Tony Ferguson’s a way tougher matchup than what people actually think.”

“Could Tony Ferguson take him down? 100%, could he keep him down? I believe so, 100%. So I’m not sure what the UFC is planning on kind of pulling here because if Paddy the Baddy does end up losing you know, they lose one of their Great White Hopes,” he added.

A game-changer for both fighters

Pimblett vs. Ferguson will take place at UFC 296 on December 16. Some say it is a clear mismatch with “The Baddy” being the favorite to win but others think “El Cucuy” still has something left in the tank.

One thing certain about the fight is that both Pimblett and Ferguson could wind up having a 360-turn around in their respective careers at the end of the fight. Like Cejudo suggested, “The Baddy” could lose his star power. On the other hand, “El Cucuy” could resurge if he manages to end his ugly six-fight losing streak.
