Get hyped! Anthony Pettis vs Jose Aldo is going down

One of the greatest things to happen during the aftermath of UFC 156 was Anthony Pettis taking this title shot business into his own hands and requesting to fight the current featherweight champ and guy who many consider one of (if not the) best pound for pound MMA fighter in the world-Jose Aldo. It was as though Pettis was watching UFC 156 while baking a homemade machismo cake and he just kept pouring his liquid cajones into a pyrex measuring cup until it overflowed and spilled out all over the post UFC 156 press conference.

If you are Anthony Pettis, and frustrated with waiting for a title shot in your current lightweight division what do you do? Apparently, you text Dana White ten minutes prior to the post fight presser and request a title shot in the weight class just below. At about 11 minutes and 51 seconds into the post fight presser Dana White revealed that he received that interesting text from Pettis and he sounded pretty impressed with the idea.

It took just over 48 hours to bring this matchup of two of our favorite former WEC badasses and now UFC badasses to fruition. USA Today is now reporting that they were informed by Dana White himself on Monday evening that indeed, Anthony Pettis will drop to 145lbs to meet featherweight champ Jose Aldo for the title on August 3rd, 2013.

Take a moment to celebrate this news by running around your living room attempting to pummel the air with superman punches and flying knees off your walls right now.

“Two of the baddest dudes in the fight business are going to fight at 145 pounds. These guys are two of the most amazing, gravity-defying athletes in the sport. I am so pumped for this fight.”

According to USAToday’s report from White-he is still looking for a venue for the event and potential location ideas on the table as of right now are Las Vegas, Chicago, Texas and Rio De Janiero. Personally, with all the gravity defying awesomeness this fight has the potential to create-I think they ought to hit up NASA and the Glenn Research Center and hold the event inside the Zero Gravity Research Facility.
