BJJ specialist Garry Tonon stepped inside the ring at the legendary Lumpinee Boxing Stadium in Bangkok on Friday night for a clash with Dagestani wrestling standout Shamil Gasanov at ONE Fight Night 12.
Round 1
Garry Tonon moved in quickly looking to close the distance early, but Gasanov got the upper hand, landing in top position and unloading a series of knees to Tonon. ‘The Lion Killer‘ fights his way back up and is able to transition to Gasanov’s back near the ropes. Tonon jumps on and rides Gasanov like a backpack. Gasanov calmly moves to the corner as they continue to jockey for position. Gasanov is content to just hold onto Tonon’s arm in hopes that the referee will separate them. The two men remained in the corner with Tonon fishing for a double leg until the round came to a close.
Round 2
Tonon came out just as fast and furious in the second, throwing a series of push kicks, but that was quickly quelled by Gasanov who moved in and dragged Tonon to the mat. Gasanov began to land some solid strikes. Tonon fought his way back up in response and the pair once again found themselves fighting for position in the corner. Tonon dives for a leg lock as he begins bleeding from the right side of his head. Tonon applies some pressure to the leg, forcing a scream out of Gasanov, who tries to relieve the pressure by rolling before finally tapping out.
