Cain Velasquez’s Coach Javier Mendez States “Illegal Punch” Caused KO Loss To Ngannou

Velasquez’s Coach Believes Francis Ngannou Landed “An Illegal Punch To The Back Of The Head”, Which Caused The Defeat!

Cain Velasquez squared off against a former title contender Francis Ngannou in the main header of UFC on ESPN 1 last Sunday. Unfortunately his Octagon return after two years of layoff didn’t go well as he suffered a loss in just 26 seconds of first round.

After the fight, Cain Velasquez said he lost the match because of a knee injury, while Francis Ngannou stated the big uppercut ended the job against the former UFC 265-pound king.

But Cain’s coach Javier Mendez claims that Francis Ngannou landed an ‘illegal punch’ that caused a KO loss. (h/t MMAMania)

“If you guys watch the video, the very first punch Ngannou threw at Cain, (Cain) came into shoot, he got hit in the back of the head, an illegal shot that dazed him a little bit when he went in for the takedown, and that’s what kind of jacked up his knee to start,” Mendez told Submission Radio. “So, I didn’t see that, I did not see that. And today I looked at it and said, ‘oh my god.’ And guess who told me about it? Cain. Cain was the one who told me.”

Javier Mendez also says Francis Ngannou didn’t make an intentional foul. But he continues blaming “the illegal punch” for the whole fiasco.

“His knee went and it wasn’t caused by any punch during, it was caused from an illegal punch that caused the whole thing,” Mendez continued. “And it wasn’t intentional, it was unintentional. It wasn’t Ngannou’s intent to do that. No, FRANCIS NGANNOU didn’t do anything wrong. It’s just that Cain went in, the punch went. I didn’t look at it as intentional, it was unintentional. So, what do you do in the circumstances like that? I don’t know.”

Before the fight, Cain said he’ll retire if came up short against Ngannou. However, at the post fight presser Cain Velasquez said he intends to regain his previous glory. On the other side, Dana White said ‘The Predator’ won’t be granted with another title shot, despite he earned a second KO win in a row.

Did you see “the illegal punch”?
