Islam Makhachev’s coach Javier Mendez enjoyed watching UFC 298 main event but Mark Zuckerberg wasn’t one of the reasons why. UFC president Dana White, meanwhile, lifted the lid on why the Facebook founder walked out with Alexander Volkanovski.

Javier didn’t care about Zuck’s appearance

For some, Zuckerberg was a scene-stealer at UFC 298 as he was there to corner Volkanovski against Ilia Topuria. However, that was never the case for Coach Mendez, who insists that he wasn’t paying attention to the Facebook CEO the entire time he was watching the fight.

“He has zero to do with anything that I liked. Even though I like the fact that he likes MMA. But I mean yeah, he is just a fan. It is appreciative that someone that powerful likes the sport legitly. As far as his expertise, there is none,” Mendez told The Schmo.

“I don’t know, I didn’t watch that because when we were watching it, when he came out there the volume and the audio went off so we couldn’t hear what the hell was going on… Then all of a sudden when they’re in the cage, that’s when the audio comes back on so I wasn’t paying attention to that… I didn’t pay attention to that at all but that was a great fight actually you know it was one of those where you know the new champ just imposed his boxing will on him and then he got him,” he added.

Javier wants Volk to lay low

Prior to losing his featherweight title to Topuria, “The Great” already lost to Makhachev in their rematch. For Mendez, it would be ideal for Volkanovski to consider taking some time off and see what he really wants to do next.

“I would probably like for him to take some time off you know to spend time with his family, his beautiful family and then see what’s next, see what kind of desire he has to come back cuz he’s not finished if he doesn’t want to be finished,” Mendez said of Volk.

Dana talks about Zuck

As expected, the media wanted to hear more about Zuckerberg’s appearance at UFC 298. According to White, Zuck may be one of the most successful people in the world but he still wanted to be a part of something as epic as UFC 298.

“Even a guy like Mark Zuckerberg who you know, you you have everything. There’s a couple things in this business first of all number one first and foremost, there’s the fight. When you have the opportunity to come to one of these fights and sit in the crowd… Then to stand where I stand for a faceoff, when you got these big fights, that’s without a doubt one of the most unique and incredible things to do in your lifetime if you’re a huge fan and the other one would be to walk out with a world champion as he’s going out to defend his title,” White explained.

“So no matter how much money you have, no matter what you have in life, it’s one of those very unique amazing things if you get the opportunity to do it,” continued.

As it stands, Volkanovski has put aside his desire to fight Makhachev again for the third time. Instead, he is focused on a rematch with Topuria. As for Zuckerberg, it is yet to be known if he would still corner “The Great” the next time he fights.
