Dustin Poirier Stops Justin Gaethje In Fight Of The Year Contender At UFC Glendale

The lightweight headliner between Dustin Poirier and Justin Gaethje went down on Saturday (April 14, 2018) at UFC on FOX 29 at Gila River Arena in Glendale, Ariz.

In a ferocious battle, Poirier scores a fourth-round TKO victory over former WSOF champ Gaethje.

In the early round, Gaethje exchange some kicks, while Dustin used his boxing skills to throw some punches and a clean hook landed for Gaethje near the end of the round.

By the second round took place, as Gaethje pick up his pace, Dustin was already switching stances due to the accumulated kicks, as both fighters threw down in tornado action.

In the third round, Gaethje pretty much took control of the fight, as the combined damage from the leg kicks finally started opening up chances for head strikes. Justin landed an overhand right that stunned Poirier. Unfortunately, eye poke from Gaethje finished the third round and resulted in a lost point for him.

In the fourth round, Poirier got his legs chopped up by constant leg kicks, and the victim of two eye pokes, incredibly finish the fight. Poirier earned the TKO victory.

Dustin Poirier walks away with the biggest performance of his UFC career, extended his divisional record to 7-1, 1 NC. He put his bid in for a shot at lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov in an interview. If title shot is not in the cards, maybe a rematch with Eddie Alvarez.

Gaethje is now 18-2 in his career.
