One incident was all it took to make UFC president Dana White a subject of scrutiny. Many are still talking about the slapping incident with his wife and even some UFC fighters are now voicing their thoughts on the matter. Among them was lightweight top contender Dustin Poirier.

Never a hurt a woman

In an exclusive interview with Bloody Elbow, Poirier was evidently trying to stay away from the issue. However, one thing “The Diamond” made clear was that he’d never side with any grown man who puts his hand on a woman.

“Dude. (long pause) I’m not sure. I have no clue. You should never put your hands on a woman. I don’t know the repercussions that come along with somebody of his stature, running these businesses and doing something like that. I have no clue. It’s not a good look for sure,” Poirier said.

When asked if he thinks White should also be reprimanded because of what he has done, Poirier outright avoided to speak his mind.

“I’m staying out of it because I’d be talking out my a**. I don’t know what should happen. I don’t know what should happen,” he replied.

Slapping is not a sport

Ironically, White had just made great strides with his Power Slap League when the slapping incident hit the internet.

Poirier thinks the slap league is wild and more importantly, he doesn’t count it as a type of sport.

“It’s more of a toughman competition type thing, you know. And I’m just not educated on the techniques of slapping somebody,” Poirier pointed out.

White had already publicly apologized for slapping his wife in a nightclub in Mexico on New Year’s Eve and the controversy it caused. The UFC boss also made it clear that he and his wife had already sorted things out and are now working on protecting their family from the toxicity of the scandal they are dealing with.

As for Poirier, the victory over Michael Chandler at UFC 281 saw him staying at the top spot as he is currently the No. 2 lightweight contender in the world. However, “The Diamond” previously said nobody in the division excites him at this point.
