Dustin Poirier Calls For Fight With Conor McGregor

The opponent for Conor McGregor’s long-awaited return to the Octagon has yet to be decided. However, Dustin Poirier thinks he could be a good fit for that role.

Dustin Poirier put on a respectable fight against Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 242. Despite the fact that he lost, he still managed to come, in some ways, closer than anybody else to beating Khabib. Nevertheless, he is now forced to look to what could be coming in the future.

As for what could be next for Poirier, he has a pretty good idea. He put out a message on Twitter calling for a fight with none other than Conor McGregor.

“I think me and Conor running it back makes a lot of sense at this point.”

This is not a bad idea, from Dustin Poirier. The pair faced off in a featherweight bout, in 2011, with McGregor walking away the victor. Since then, both men have moved up to lightweight, and are no longer the same fighters they were then. A rematch between these men would largely be a very different fight.

While Poirier fought his way through the lightweight rankings, en route to losing in a title fight at UFC 242. McGregor has been on a different course. He also lost to Khabib in his most recent bout. However, he has not won a single MMA fight since 2016. With both men having lost to the same opponent, this fight could be a good scrap.

Dustin Poirier is only the most recent person to call McGregor out for a fight. No matter who he fights in his return, it is sure to be a massive event.
