UFC light heavyweight Dustin Jacoby is breaking down the rematch between Jiří Procházka and Glover Teixeira.

The UFC light heavyweight division has been historically one of the most exciting divisions in the UFC. For many years the 205-pound division was headed up by Jon Jones. In 2020 he decided to relinquish his crown and has been working towards a move to heavyweight, this freed up the belt for other challengers. Right now that belt is being held by Jiří Procházka, who won it by beating Glover Teixeira back in June. Although not official yet, the rumor is that these two men could be running it back again in January.

This rematch is very interesting to the other fighters in the lightweight division. One man who is keeping a close eye on the situation is Dustin Jacoby. Right now Jacoby sits in the number 13 spot on the rankings list but could be making a move for the top. He was asked by Din Thomas of MMA on Sirius XM which man he would rather match up with if that were to become an option.

“Jiri, he’s like a Tony Ferguson at 205. What scares me about him is he just goes man, there’s no stop. He’s got a gas tank that’s some of the best in the division,” he said.

Jacoby definitely sees the trouble that the champion could bring his way but also sees the other side of the matchup as a threat as well. Teixeira is a longtime UFC veteran with a lot of grappling experience. He is a former champion as well but could be on his last few fights. Jacoby sees the strength in Teixeira but is willing to take his chances with the Brazilian.

“Then you got Glover, who’s a big strong guy, that I would love to strike with. But man, if he gets his hands on you, I guarantee he’s as strong as an ox,” he said. ” So of the two men, I think I’d rather fight Glover, to be honest. I think I can catch him on the outside a little bit easier but again if he got his hands on me that’d be a whole other challenge.”

Jacoby seems willing to face either man, but the fact of the matter is he may have a ways to go before either is possible. As previously mentioned the light heavyweight division is stacked with tough fighters and Jacoby must fight his way to the top to face the top guys. He has his next assignment all set when he takes on Khalil Rountree on Oct. 29 at UFC Vegas 63.
