Donald Cerrone will not be fighting Joe Lauzon this weekend.

‘Cowboy’ was matched up with Lauzon for UFC 274 last month. The bout was called off after Cerrone reportedly got food poisoning from eating tacos at a local restaurant in Phoenix, AZ. It was also the first time Cerrone had ever pulled out of a fight since joining the UFC in 2011.

The two were rescheduled for UFC Fight Night: Kattar vs. Emmett but it looks like it won’t happen.

Donald Cerrone vs. Joe Lauzon scrapped from UFC Austin

Cerrone withdrew from their initially planned meeting at the last moment, on fight day. Now, Lauzon has been forced to pull out of their contest at UFC Austin on fight day as well due to health issues.

During Friday’s ceremonial weigh-ins, only Cerrone was in attendance while Lauzon was dealing with cramps following the official weigh-ins.

Ariel Helwani was the first to report the news of the fight being called off on Twitter.

“Cerrone-Lauzon is off. Again.”

“Pretty wild. Last month, canceled on fight day because Cerrone got sick. Today, canceled on fight day because of a health issue with Lauzon. He weighed in yesterday but didn’t show up to the ceremonials because he wasn’t feeling well.

Cerrone & Lauzon are on the tail end of their careers

Both grizzled veterans Cerrone and Lauzon are in the twilight of their careers. Lauzon was looking to return after about a three-year hiatus and has not competed in a professional fight since his last outing against Jonathan Pearce in October 2019.

Meanwhile, Cerrone has been the more active fighter of the two. He’s dropped five of his last six with a sole no contest and has not registered a win in about three years since 2019.

Dana White had stated that the bout will be the retirement fight for at least one of the men. However, many believe that both may hang up the gloves regardless of the outcome. It’s unclear as of now what the UFC plan to do ahead, whether they rebook it for a later date or just cancel the idea once and for all.
