- Arman Tsarukyan talked about his plan to fight for the title next
- “Ahalkalakets” will be waiting until the UFC decides to make him the next title fight challenger
Arman Tsarukyan is confident that it is his turn to compete for UFC gold as he calls for a title fight with Islam Makhachev after knocking out Beneil Dariush at UFC Austin.
Everything played out as planned
Speaking to reporters in his post-fight presser, “Ahalkalakets” revealed that he was really gunning for a first-round knockout as he believes it would be his ticket to a title shot.
“Sure, I was expecting [to knock him out],” Tsarukyan told reporters, including Middle Easy. “When they gave me the fight, I was thinking, ‘I have to knock him out in the first round and call out Islam and get a title fight.’”
“Charles [Oliveira] knocked him out, and if I won by decision, how am I going to fight for the title?” he questioned. “But I knocked him out faster than Charles, and he didn’t take me down like he did with Charles. I performed better than Charles. Charles already had the opportunity, so it’s my time right now.”
Dana approved
UFC president Dana White is also in favor of Tsarukyan’s case for a title shot. For “Ahalkalakets,” it’s nice to hear some good news like that but he is ultimately hoping it progresses.
“Justin Gaethje already has a title, the BMF. So, he has to enjoy for his title… “[I’m] So happy [about White’s approval]. That’s good news. Hopefully they change something and put me versus Islam,” Tsarukyan concluded.
Tsarukyan has now won three fights in a row. The win over Dariush will make him a Top-5 contender. However, it is too early to know if he will be the clear-cut next in line.
As for Islam, the reigning champ has no problem with who he would face next but as much as possible, he gets to fight three times next year.
