Report: Derrick Lewis Fought At UFC Wichita With Torn Meniscus, ACL And MCL

Derrick Lewis Fought Junior dos Santos With A Injured Knee

Last weekend (March 9, 2019) in the main headline of UFC Fight Night 146, a former UFC heavyweight title challenger Derrick Lewis returned to the Octagon against former UFC heavyweight champion Junior dos Santos from inside INTRUST Bank Arena in Wichita, Kansas.

Unfortunately, things didn’t go as planned for Lewis as ‘Cigano’ finished ‘Black Beast’ in the second round via TKO punches. This is the first time Lewis got put to rest the same Mark Hunt did to him back in 2017 at UFC Fight Night 110.

Lewis is one hell of a tough dude, who had scored victories after taking a beating from his opponents, but to remind you most often he fought through injuries during fight night.

But such injuries sure backfires too sometimes, like Lewis fought Hunt with a bad back and ‘Black Beast’ had to pay the price, the same injury led him to pull out of UFC 216.

Of course at UFC Wichita something similar happened. Early on Lewis landed his patented nuke on dos Santos but Brazilian ultimately survived through. But by second round ‘Cigano’ seal a deal by landing the biggest strikes.

According to Helen Yee, a Las Vegas Sports Network reporter that Derrick Lewis entered into his fight with a series of knee problems and wasn’t 100% fit.

Spoke to sources in Derrick Lewis’ camp who tell me Derrick came in w torn meniscus, ACL & MCL from a month ago. Lewis refused to pull from fight. That’s why Bob told him to finish after the first round. It wasn’t just his stomach. Knee was giving out. What a warrior #UFCWichita

In another Tweet, Helen said that ‘Black Beast’ team didn’t give any excuses for the loss, but instead detailed what exactly happened.

PLEASE NOTE: They are not making excuses at all, just informing me what happened.

Regardless of what MMA community see this matter as but Lewis fought hard and fought well in round one against JDS.

Currently, Lewis is riding on two-fight losing skid, prior to that he won over Francis Ngannou and Alexander Volkov.
