David Martinez defended his bantamweight title in highlight-reel fashion.

Martinez is the Combate Global bantamweight champion and was defending his belt in the main event of the Combate Global: ‘Martinez vs Zarauz’ on Saturday. It was the first defense of his bantamweight title he won back in October and it was Martinez defeating Jose Zarauz by fourth-round knockout with a spinning wheel kick.

The wheel kick came out of nowhere and landed perfectly for Martinez to get the KO victory. Once it landed, Zarauz fell flat on his face and Martinez ran to land ground-and-pound but the ref jumped in to stop the fight.

Martinez extends win streak

With the win, David Martinez improved to 10-1 as a pro and could very well be getting a call to the UFC soon. He is the brother of UFC strawweight Melissa Martinez. The victory over Zarauz also was his sixth win in a row as before that, he beat Axel Osuna by fourth-round knockout to win the Combate Global bantamweight title.

In his career, Martinez has been with Combate Global since his third pro fight in 2018 and has notable wins over UFC veteran Franciso Rivera Jr. who he beat by second-round knockout.

As for Jose Zarauz, he fell to 23-10-1 as a pro with the loss for the bantamweight title. He earned the title shot by beating UFC veteran Jordan Espinosa by second-round submission last May. Before that, he suffered a split decision loss to Bellator veteran Frans Mlambo. In his career, Zarauz has lost to fighters that went on to fight in the UFC like Esteban Ribovics, Joanderson Brito, and Humberto Bandenay, while now being 1-3 in Combate Global.
