Daniel Cormier Vows To Fight Jon Jones At 205lbs For His Final Fight

Speaking to TMZ Sports, Light Heavyweight and Heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier states :

“I WANT TO FIGHT [JON] JONES AT 205 [POUNDS]. BECAUSE THAT’S WHERE HE BEAT ME. HE BEAT ME AT 205… I WANT TO BEAT HIM WHERE HE BEAT ME AND I THINK JON AND I ARE ON THE SAME WAVELENGTH IN THAT SENSE AND WE’RE NEVER ON THE SAME WAVELENGTH. WE DON’T AGREE ON ANYTHING.

BOTH OF US WANT TO FIGHT AT 205 AND ULTIMATELY…DANA [WHITE IS] A POWER GUY BUT ULTIMATELY WHAT WE DECIDE IS WHAT WE’RE GONNA DO. IF WE BOTH SAY WE WANT TO FIGHT AT 205 THAT’S WHERE WE’RE GONNA FIGHT.

IF [BROCK] LESNAR CAN’T FIGHT, AS I’VE SAID, I’D FIGHT STIPE [MIOCIC]. BUT IT’S GONNA BE JONES AT LEAST. LESNAR FIRST, [THEN] JONES.”

The current double champion wants to complete the trilogy fight with Jon Jones despite ‘Bones’ winning the first fight by unanimous decision and the second bout originally, was third-round TKO win for Jones but being ruled a no contest due to Jones being flagged for an anti-doping violation last year. A court case recently ruled that Jones would be suspended from the UFC for 15 months, meaning he would be eligible to fight from October 28th.

Jones is clear to return and it’s expected that he’ll lock horns against Alexander Gustafsson who gave Jones the toughest fight of his career.

Although Cormier (21-1-0 1NC) has an impending big money fight against the infamous WWE star Brock Lesnar (9-3) which is likely to take place in the early months of 2019. Cormier is adamant of the 3rd fight against Jones (23-1) as Jones handed Cormier the only loss of his career at UFC 182. Rumors have been circulating of a potential heavyweight title fight between the two with Cormier now being the UFC heavyweight champion after a dominant first round KO of Stipe Miocic at UFC 226.

However, it seems that ‘DC’ is adamant of his final fight being at light heavyweight despite weighing in at 246lbs for his last fight.
