UFC President Dana White Claims Jon Jones Vs. Alexander Gustafsson Rematch Might Happen At UFC 232
Well, Yoel Romero title fight against Alexander Gustafsson isn’t happening anymore at UFC 232 in New York City. It wouldn’t affect Gustafsson; instead, he’ll get a rematch with former light heavyweight champion Jon Jones that ‘The Mauler’ has been pursuing ever since ‘Bones’ defend the title by narrow split decision back in 2013.
According to ESPN‘s Brett Okamoto, UFC president Dana white thinking about scheduling Jones Vs. Gustaffson rematch that could headline upcoming UFC 232 pay-per-view (PPV) event, which is set to take place Sat., Dec. 29, 2018 inside T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
“It’s one of the greatest light heavyweight title fights in history, and I expect the rematch to be the same!!!” White told ESPN’s reporter Brett Okamoto.
Dana White says he’d like Jon Jones’ return to be a long awaited rematch against Alexander Gustafsson at UFC 232 at the end of the year. I, for one, could live with this plan. https://t.co/1UpTFvIMkg

Jones recently got 15-months of retroactive suspension that means he’ll be eligible to return to UFC Octagon by late October.
In a recent interview, both rivals have expressed their interest to throw down again in a rematch. Jones said he’d “love” to fight ‘Mauler’ again and “take him seriously this time.” Meanwhile, Gustafsson is willing to make this rematch happen no matter what it cost even said Jones “can cheat if he wants, he’d still put a beating on him.”
Jon Jones last competed July of 2017, when he knocked out Daniel Cormier via head-kick, to reclaim the UFC light heavyweight title. Later, it was announced that ‘Bones’ had failed a drug test shortly after that, which led the winning results to overturned to no-contest and Cormier reinstated as a champion.
Gustafsson, last fight occurred in May of 2017, when he earned a fifth-round knockout win over Glover Teixeira.
The showdown isn’t official as of yet, but it seems the ship is in the right direction, we may hear some concrete news in the next few days.
