Daniel Cormier has a hard time seeing his friend and teammate Khabib Nurmagomedov fighting again.

Nurmagomedov retired from the UFC in 2020 following his submission win over Justin Gaethje. The former lightweight champ said he didn’t want to continue his career after the death of his dad.

However, after his retirement, UFC CEO Dana White tried to get him back to no luck. Now, with UFC 300 coming up, Chael Sonnen recently said he thinks Nurmagomedov will return, but Cormier doesn’t think that will happen.

Daniel Cormier says Khabib Nurmagomedov won’t fight again

“In Abu Dhabi, when Islam fought, he didn’t even go, he didn’t even come to the arena. Tonight is about Islam, and a lot of times, when you have a guy like Khabib, dude, Khabib has gotten to the point now, he’s one of those guys, no bullshit, he’s like f*****g Messi and all them other dudes. When he goes out publicly it’s crazy the level of attention and stardom this man has. So, he tends to overshadow people when you are around them. He didn’t even go in Abu Dhabi because a lot of times, it will turn into Coach Khabib, and he’s trying to step away to make sure he isn’t taking anything away from the guys who are in the Octagon,” Cormier said on his YouTube channel.

“I don’t imagine he would, I haven’t really spoken to him lately, but I don’t imagine he would come back. We did a top 30 UFC fighters of all-time. Khabib told us he turned down $40 million. He said $40 million, that dude said $40 million to come back. I don’t know how many fights he was meaning, I don’t know what he meant. But, he said it. He goes, I turned down $40 million, brother, I’m done. I don’t know what would prompt him to come back if he was turning down that money two years ago,” Cormier continued.

If Khabib Nurmagomedov did come back, it would be a massive surprise and regardless of who the opponent is, it would be a big fight. Unfortnately, Daniel Cormier doesn’t think it will come to fruition.
