Daniel Cormier thinks Darren Till needs a win at UFC 282 to keep things moving in his career.

With the last PPV of the year almost upon us, much of the conversation in the MMA world is focused on the event. The UFC 282 event has taken some hits in the past weeks and has lost some of its star power. Of the fights left on the card, one of the most interesting is the middleweight bout between Darren Till and Dricus Du Plessis.

Till is coming into this bout having lost his last two. Till was considered at one time a top prospect and a probable title holder when he first came to the UFC. After a change of weight class, Till has been on a bit of a slide. He is now hoping to get his career back on track with this main card matchup against a streaking Du Plessis.

The downward trajectory of Till has not gone unnoticed. Daniel Cormier spoke about Till and his backslide on a recent episode of his ESPN show called DC & RC.

“The one thing about Till is, he’s very popular. People still recognize him and honestly, before Leon Edwards became the champ, Till was still the most popular English fighter because he’s recognizable and he’s got a big personality,” he said h/t MMA Junkie. “He’s a character, but the reality is, the character only gets you so far. You’ve got to win fights.”

Cormier thinks Till is in a must-win situation. Till has fought very tough opponents recently and has headlined five of his last seven events. Now he will have a three-round bout against Du Plessis, who is coming in on a five-fight winning streak. Till is confident and thinks he is in the best shape of his life for this fight.

“Darren Till’s got that skillset, he’s training out of Sweden now with those guys like Khamzat and Andreas Michael and the whole team at Allstars MMA,” Cormier said. “He has to implement what they teach and has to do it in a way that reminds everyone who Darren Till is and was between 170 and 185. He’s still young enough to make another run towards a championship opportunity. But it all starts Saturday, and if he can’t get past Du Plessis, it might be over for the time being for Till, but it would skyrocket Dricus up the rankings into very, very important fights.”

UFC 282 will take place on Saturday, Dec. 10 live from Las Vegas. The event will be headlined by a light heavyweight title fight between Jan Blachowicz and Magomed Alkaleav. Till vs, Du Plessis will be the second fight on the main card.
