Dana White Says Welterweight Division Will Move On With Or Without Tyron Woodley

Dana White Ready To Move On Even Without Tyron Woodley, Hints New UFC Welterweight Interim Title Match

Tyron Woodley dislocated his right thumb in the title defense match versus Darren Till at the main event of UFC 228. He had no choice but to undergo surgery and it was reported he’ll be out for 8-12 weeks.

The super-fight between Henry Cejudo and TJ Dillashaw was set for the main event of UFC 233 PPV (pay-per-view) event previously. But according to ESPN, UFC decided to move this clash. Cejudo Vs Dillashaw will headline the UFC’s debut on ESPN+ on January 19, 2019.

Dana White now looks for an eye-catching fight for the main event of UFC 233, which takes place on January 26th, 2019, in Anaheim, California.

Initially, Dana White had an idea of Woodley Vs Covington for the main event of UFC 233. But according to the statement White gave to TSN Sports, Tyron Woodley is the one who plays games. It looks like the UFC president lost his patience. He plans to set up a Welterweight match, with or without “T-Wood”.

“Tell me when Woodley does want to fight,” White said. “This is always an issue with Woodley. We’re going to move on. That division is stacked. We’ve got a lot of good talent and whether Woodley fights or doesn’t, we’ll end up making a fight with some of the best guys in that division.”

Dana didn’t exclude the possibility of a new Interim Welterweight title shot too.

The interim match already happened once when Tyron Woodley underwent shoulder surgery following his win over Demian Maia at UFC 214. Colby Covington defeated Rafael dos Anjos at the co-main event of UFC 225 on June 9, 2018, and won UFC Interim Welterweight title. Covington was given a title fight opportunity vs Woodley but ‘Chaos’ missed that chance due to nasal surgery. Instead, UFC roped Darren Till against Tyron Woodley but “The Gorilla” lost the bout via second-round TKO.

White claims “Chaos” was given the chance to fight Woodley, but he was the one who missed it.

“You either want to be a world champion or you don’t,” White said about Covington. “If you get the opportunity in this business, you need to take it immediately. He had the opportunity to fight Woodley, he should have took it, he didn’t. We’ll see if he steps up and takes another opportunity.”

Well, one fighter is always ready – Kamaru Usman! In May this year, “Nigerian Nightmare” stated he should be the next man fighting for the belt. Tyron Woodley has already slammed the door shut to Usman in August of this year. Woodley said he wouldn’t fight Kamaru if Darren Till misses weight.

Kamaru Usman earned a dominant unanimous decision victory over Rafael dos Anjos at the main event of TUF 28 a week ago. But he also said he wanted Colby Covington instead of a title shot next.

It looks like this puzzle won’t be solved soon. Do you think Dana White could pair Kamaru Usman and Colby Covington for another UFC Interim Welterweight title shot if he gets a negative response from Tyron Woodley?
