There are times in life when you just have to accept the cards you have been dealt and say to yourself, “it is what it is.” Anthony Pettis is in such a situation. After earning his WEC championship title shot at the end of last year and during the absorption of the WEC into the UFC, Pettis was promised a title shot only to have that opportunity pushed back by the draw between Edgar and Maynard and their subsequent injuries.
In order to keep himself busy and getting paid in the meantime he took the fight scheduled for this Saturday against Clay Guida. Now according to Dana White himself it looks like Pettis will probably have to fight one more fight after this one to get his title shot. In a recent interview with Fighters Only magazine Dana White tells us how even he doesn’t like the Pettis situation:
“That kid’s in a bad position. He’s supposed to be the next in line. All this craziness happens. Edgar and Maynard both get hurt, and it gets pushed back again. The first one is a draw, then they get hurt, and it gets pushed back again. But this is one of those things that happens in a sport like this…I respect Pettis for stepping up and taking on a tough guy like Guida, and he’ll probably have to fight again before he gets a shot at one of those guys. Sucks for him. It’s a shi**y position for him to be in.”
Sometimes even when the Il Duce of MMA thinks your situation is one for the crapper there is just nothing you can do about it other than accept it and handle it. After nearly six months without a fight, we’ll all finally get to see how Anthony Pettis handles it against Guida at the TUF 13 Finale this Saturday night. [source]
