- Dana White doesn’t believe anything that implies Stipe Miocic has been ducking Jon Jones
- The UFC boss stressed that fighting isn’t the only thing Miocic is doing in his life
UFC president Dana White is not buying the narrative suggesting Stipe Miocic has been ducking Jon Jones all this time. Instead, White explained that apart from fighting, guys like Miocic also have a lot of things on their plate.
Stipe has been a fighter all his life
Speaking to BT Sport ahead of UFC 286, White was asked to comment on Jon Jones’ recent accusation against Miocic, implying that the former UFC heavyweight champion ran away from him last year and is doing the same thing now that they could potentially fight in July.
According to White, ducking is not on Miocic’s DNA and if their fight did not materialize, it’s just because of other things that did not fall into place.
“Stipe never tried to get out of anything ever. This guy is looked at as the greatest or one of the greatest heavyweights of all time and no, I don’t think Stipe is trying to get out of anything. You have to understand, for some of these guys, when they get to the level of a [Jon] Jones, a [Conor] McGregor, a Stipe, Stipe’s done it all, he’s made tons of money plus he has a job in Ohio, he’s got babies, these guys have stuff going on so it’s never a matter of he’s trying to get out of something. Stipe’s been fighting his whole life, who’s he trying to hide from? it doesn’t even make sense plus this will be, if not the biggest, one of the biggest fights of his life,” White pointed out.
Respect is present
Despite seemingly egging Miocic in his recent tweets, “Bones” still has a lot of respect for his upcoming opponent. Unlike with some of his previous fights, Jones has spoken highly of Miocic ahead of their “important” title fight.
As it stands, White and the UFC have yet to finalize an official date for Jones vs. Miocic. Jones will be coming in looking to successfully defend his heavyweight title and cement his name as the GOAT. Miocic, meanwhile, looks at it as just another glitter to his already illustrious career.
