  • Dana White addressed the Paulo Costa vs. Khamzat Chimaev verbal altercation at UFC PI
  • “Borrachinha” said “Borz” was “scared” to fight

It didn’t take long for UFC president Dana White to learn about the recent near-scuffle incident between top contenders Paulo Costa and Khamzat Chimaev at UFC Performance Institute. As expected, the media quizzed White for comments which he promptly addressed.

No biggie

Speaking to reporters at a post-event press conference of Dana White’s Contender Series, the UFC boss went straightforward about the subject. According to White, nothing about the Costa-Chimaev squabble surprised him as such things happen “in the fight business.”

White stressed that if there’s anything to be concerned about in such incidents, that is to ensure that no fight will take place inside the UFC-owned facility.

“Guys cross each other’s paths. These things happen sometimes. That’s the business that we’re in. At the PI they’re super sensitive to who’s training where and who’s doing what. But when you have a gym full of fighters who aren’t from necessarily the same- I’m sure they have that problem in the same camps, you know. It happens, that’s the business that we’re in … We’re in the fight business, this stuff happens,” White told reporters. “It’s up to us to make sure that they don’t fight at the PI, that’s our job. So fighters will be fighters and those things are going to happen and we’ll deal with it.”

Khamzat did not want no smoke

Prior to White’s statement, Costa revealed to his fans what went down in his run-in with “Borz.” As per “Borrachinha,” Chimaev was acting as if he wanted to fight but the truth is, he was cowering in fear. The middleweight contender even upped the ante by branding Chimaev a “cupcake Chechen.”

For context, the verbal altercation started when Costa claimed in a live chat that Chimaev is “not a real gangster” and his upcoming opponent at UFC 279 Nate Diaz is.

Will Costa be in attendance at UFC 279 when Chimaev takes on Diaz in the main event? Let’s wait and see.
