- Paulo Costa talked about the recent verbal altercation he had with Khamzat Chimaev
- “Borrachinha” claimed “Borz” was scared to fight him
Khamzat Chimaev and Paulo Costa got involved in a near-scuffle incident when they crossed paths at UFC Performance Institute.
It can be recalled that the Brazilian first took a jab at “Borz” during a live chat with fans, stating that Chimaev is “not a real gangster” and Nate Diaz is. The welterweight contender wanted to address Costa’s comments at UFC PI but according to Jake Shields, who was working out with “Borrachinha” at the time, Chimaev was with several guys and people in the gym prevented the two UFC top contenders from getting close to one another.
In the video, Chimaev and Costa were seen having a back and forth. Shortly after the video captured the attention of the fans, “Borrachinha” lifted the lid on the subject on his YouTube channel.
“I met Chimaev there, and man, he was scared,” Costa recalled. “The guy stood there and he froze. He froze. I actually was not surprised. As I said before, cupcake Chechen, gourmet Chechen is a bully with small guys… Just so you know, Chimaev, I don’t need to have a couple of guys with me. I’m an army of one man. I walk alone and I can beat you alone with just one hand.”
Khamzat was scared?
Costa added that when things were already heating up, he is certain Chimaev was “scared as f**k,” suggesting that “Borz” was just playing tough because he’s with his team.
“He called me to talk and I went there, I faced him,” he continued. “He said, ‘Hey Borrachinha, why do you talk about me?’ I said, ‘Man, what did I talk about you? You want to fight me?’ He said, ‘No, no – I want to know what you talk about me.’ I said, ‘Man, I want to fight you. If you beat Nate Diaz, I want to fight you,’ and he froze. He said, ‘Okay, so let’s fight now.’ His whole team got in the middle between me and him. Man, this guy is scared. He’s scared as f**k.
“Just so you know, Chimaev, I don’t need to have a couple of guys with me. I’m an army of one man. I walk alone and I can beat you alone with just one hand.”
Chimaev is expected to not let Costa’s comments slide so we can be sure he’ll address it soon. Will this be a start of new storyline and rivalry? Let’s wait and see.
In the main event of UFC 279, Chimaev will take on Diaz, at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
