- Dana White dismissed the narrative stating he suggested Jon Jones is now the one ducking Stipe Miocic ahead of their potential title fight
- The UFC boss is keen on having Jones vs. Miocic taking place at the Madison Square Garden
UFC president Dana White was quizzed to comment about the looming Jon Jones vs. Stipe Miocic heavyweight title fight at UFC Kansas. White insisted that though there seems to be a dramatic back and forth going on between the two best heavyweight fighters in the sport leading up to the potential showdown, the truth is there’s nothing juicy to talk about.
The boss blamed it on the media again
Speaking to reporters during a press conference, the UFC boss pointed his finger to the media once again. According to White, he did say that after egging Miocic following his UFC 285 win over Ciryl Gane, Jones suddenly disappeared but that’s it. No less, no more.
White further implied that no matter what Miocic said in his response to “Bones,” he didn’t suggest that Jones is now the one hiding or ducking.
“That was totally blown out of proportion. This is what you guys do. I say something, you blow it way out of proportion,” White exclaimed. “I said all the buildup and all the lead up to that fight, all the Jon Jones and poof! and then he’s just gone… and then Stipe came, I don’t know what Stipe said but it’s like it turns into f**king drama. There’s no drama here. I was just saying the buildup was huge, everything else and then poof! Jon was gone, I mean back, back home and everything else but yeah as far as I know everything’s good and hopefully we have a fight and with him and Stipe very soon.”
MSG is priority
White then agreed to a reporter who asked if Jones was right when he made it look like the fight will take place at Madison Square Garden.
“That’s where we’d like to do it yeah, so I guess Jon’s back huh? he hasn’t disappeared anymore he’s back it’s so f**king easy to create drama in this f**king sport. It’s insane,” White concluded.
Aside from successfully defending his heavyweight title, Jones considers the fight with Miocic as the one which will cement his name as the GOAT of MMA. Miocic, meanwhile, sees it as just another huge win in his already legendary career.
Jones is coming in off a sensational first-round submission victory over Gane at UFC 285 after three years of inactivity. On the other hand, Miocic will try and redeem his elite status, having knocked out by former heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou in their rematch at UFC 260 in 2021.
