Stipe Miocic called out Jon Jones after Dana White said the UFC heavyweight champion has disappeared since beating Ciryl Gane.

Shortly after defeating Gane, ‘Bones’ used his UFC 285 post-fight interview to call out Miocic, who was sitting cageside. During the following weeks, rumors began circulating about Jones defending the UFC heavyweight championship for the first time against the Ohio native at International Fight Week in July, which no longer seems to be the case.

The UFC president recently did an interview on The Pat McAfee Show. Miocic saw a clip of the interview and posted a short video on Twitter of White saying:

“Poof, he’s gone again. Jon Jones goes back underground and let me know when the Stipe fight is done. He’s a fascinating, talented artist to deal with. I haven’t heard a word out of him.”

Before taking out Gane, Jones hadn’t fought since defending his UFC light heavyweight title against Dominick Reyes in February 2020. ‘Bones’ remained inactive while he searched for a new challenge, which ended up being a body transformation for the heavyweight division.

Stipe Miocic responds to Dana White’s comments about Jon Jones

Jon Jones was supposed to make his heavyweight debut against Francis Ngannou or Stipe Miocic. Ngannou ended up leaving the promotion to pursue other opportunities, making Miocic the primary option. Once the highly-anticipated fight didn’t materialize, the Ohio native was accused of avoiding a bout against ‘Bones.’

Miocic has remained consistent by saying that he always wanted the fight against Jones. After posting the video of Dana White saying ‘Bones’ has disappeared, the former UFC heavyweight champion had this to say on Twitter:

“Weird… because last month you said I was the one running @JonnyBones”

“If anyone needs me, I’ll be in the gym.”

Miocic last fought in March 2021, suffering a vicious knockout loss against Ngannou. Since then, the 40-year-old has been waiting for the perfect opportunity to return, which seems to be a heavyweight title fight against Jones.

The inevitable matchup with Jones will have added stakes as there are rumors about the Ohio native being close to retirement. It’ll be intriguing to see when the heavyweight championship bout is made official.
