- Dana White admitted that it’s hard to convince Conor McGregor to return because he doesn’t need money
- The UFC boss revealed what he needs from “Notorious” to be included in UFC 300
UFC president Dana White was once again quizzed to reveal what is really up with Conor McGregor and would he ever be included in UFC 300.
A rich man is hard to lure
Speaking to Kevin Iole, the UFC boss explained that at this point, McGregor’s injury is still an acceptable reason why he has yet to fully commit. But more importantly, what makes it even harder is the fact that “Notorious” doesn’t really need the money the UFC could offer for his return.
“First of all, he is coming back from one of the nastiest injuries you can come back from. How long was Anderson Silva out when he did it? How long was Chris Weidman out when he did it?… So that’s an issue right there, No. 1. No. 2 is, Conor McGregor doesn’t need the f**king money. So when you don’t need the money, it’s not as easy, I mean, Khabib [Nurmagomedov] doesn’t need the money, Khabib retired,” White pointed out.
“I know he’s training,” he added. “I don’t know what level of training he’s doing. I don’t know what level of kicking he’s doing right now. I don’t know any of that.”
Conor’s chances of headlining UFC 300
White previously said that nothing is concrete about UFC 300 to this day. In fact, there is still no official headliner for the event.
When asked about the possibility of McGregor being injected into the card, White said first and foremost, he needs to know that the Irish MMA superstar is already in full camp by now. But even so, making McGregor commit is still a difficult job.
“Yeah [I talked to Conor about UFC 300] but I need to know the guy’s in a full camp and he’s ready to go,” White said. “Conor McGregor has a movie coming out. He’s got businesses that he’s built. It’s a completely different dynamic when you’re dealing with a guy that has this kind of money.”
McGregor was previously expected to face Michael Chandler for International Fight Week. However, the fight eventually fell apart and as it stands, White said the bout still has no specific date but “hopefully” it will finally happen this year.
As for UFC 300, the event is set to take place on April 13, which is exactly two months from now.
