Khabib And McGregor Rematch Likely For 2020?

We’re closing in on the one year mark since Conor McGregor and Khabib Nurmagomedov fought at UFC 229 in October of last year, where Khabib submitted McGregor to win the lightweight belt before the big brawl broke out.

Well, Khabib was suspended after that fight and McGregor announced his retirement on Twitter (Although we all know that’s not likely the case).

But both are perfectly able to step back into the octagon for a second fight, and UFC President Dana White knows it would be a great matchup as he told Rich Eisen in an interview… “It would be a massive fight and it’s absolutely possible, yes”. White says he thinks McGregor will come back early next year.

But until a winner is determined following the upcoming Khabib vs. Dustin Poirier fight in September at UFC 242, we can’t be sure of the rematch at the earliest it could possibly happen.

Dana White was asked about what should be expected of Conor McGregor and his response was,

“Conor loves to fight, this kid is passionate about fighting, and he will be back and he will fight again”.

But there are plenty of other amazing fighters in the division, plus Khabib talked of a super fight with the legendary Georges St. Pierre who said himself that he would hold off to come back and fight Khabib.

So, there are a lot of exciting fights which are totally possible in the lightweight division but a Khabib and McGregor rematch are surely at the top of the list. McGregor will be back and as one of the greatest fighters of all time, it’ll hard to imagine that he wouldn’t want a second fight with Khabib.

It’s a matchup we all want to see and it’s very likely to happen sometime next year if everything falls into place.
