Georges St-Pierre Is Still Gunning For Fight With Khabib Nurmagomedov

Georges St-Pierre may have retired from MMA, after failing to get a fight with Khabib Nurmagomedov. However, he is still interested in making that fight happen.

GSP is one of the greatest fighters off all time. He was able to put together the best run in UFC Welterweight history. Additionally, he returned from a 5 year hiatus, to capture the Middleweight title from Michael Bisping.

However, after suffering medical complications from his weight jump, GSP relinquished that title. Subsequently, he was looking for a money fight, against Khabib Nurmagomedov. Despite this, he was unable to come to terms with the UFC for this fight. So, rather than take other fights, the Canadian chose to retire.

However, Georges St-Pierre is still interested in making that fight happen. He spoke with TSN Radio, on why he wants the fight, and why he thinks he would win.

“If I want the legacy fight, Khabib is the man to beat right now. He’s the best fighter in the world right now to me. Undefeated and he hasn’t shown any kind of weakness. Nobody has ever come close to solving the puzzle, so that’s why it was very interesting for me.”

Georges St-Pierre continued, explaining how he would beat Khabib.

I think there’s different areas of the fight that I’m better than him. Even though he’s better than me in some stuff, I’m quicker in and out and controlling the distance and getting inside for the takedown faster in the open stance. He’s better near the fence, I’m better in the open. If I keep that fight in the open, I win.”

St-Pierre then went on to explain why he thinks the UFC opted out of making the fight with Khabib.

“Maybe they don’t want me to beat him because if I leave after that, I ruin their whole investment.”

Currently it seems that Khabib has hands full, with a long list of contenders. However, it is important to remember that when he signed a new UFC contract, he included a “GSP” clause in it.

Perhaps a fight with Georges St-Pierre is not too far of a stretch.
