  • Colby Covington is hoping he could face Kamaru Usman again just to prove that he is the better fighter
  • “Chaos” accused “The Nigerian Nightmare” of yearning for attention

As Colby Covington edges closer to another title shot, he opened up about his desire to prove that he is better than Kamaru Usman once and for all. For “Chaos,” the former welterweight champion has become desperate for attention and decided to chase a big-name fighter in Khamzat Chimaev.

Colby needs that fight

Speaking to Low Kick MMA, Covington pointed out that regardless of how the judges saw it, he beat Usman in their rematch. This makes them 1-1 and even though “The Nigerian Nightmare” is no longer the champ, “Chaos” thinks it’s only right that they fight again for the third time so he can finally add a legitimate win over Usman to his “legacy.”

“We’re tied 1-1 right now. He got lucky the first time with a fake ref and fake you know judges. It was terrible, early stoppage, taking nuts shot, eye poked, he cheated multiple times in the fight so okay he got one maybe fake mythical fight the first one but everybody knew in Madison Square Garden the second fight that we fought I beat him, it was three rounds of two, I went going away the last three rounds, I walked out of that building clean as f**k, around three, four and five, beating his ass dropping him in the fourth you know, just beating him.”

“I’m better than him and now you’re starting to see it, he’s slowing down and I’m only getting better and I’m going up and he’s coming down so of course, I would love to get the Usman Trilogy. I think that’s a fight I would love to have for my legacy.”

Looking to make waves once again

After failing to reclaim his welterweight belt in his trilogy match with Leon Edwards at UFC 286, Usman said he thinks the fight that makes sense for him is a showdown with Chimaev. For Covington, it doesn’t make any because “Borz” is clearly fighting at 185, and “The Nigerian Nightmare” clearly wants to stay at welterweight.

The way “Chaos” sees it, Usman is just looking to make headlines once again by calling out a big name because he couldn’t draw attention by himself.

“A hundred percent, all that was to draw some headlines,” Covington said of Usman calling out Chimaev. “He knows Chimaev’s already going to 185… unless he’s going to fight at 185 then why are you calling that guy out it looks like he’s just looking for headlines and attention because he can’t get attention any other way because he has no charisma. Literally, there’s a wet mop in the corner of my house right now that that has more charisma than Kamaru ‘fake newsman’.”

Covington is already the next welterweight title challenger and the only thing he’s waiting for is a date. As for Usman, his plan is to secure a big win and hope that Edwards continue winning so he can avenge his back-to-back losses.
