McGregor Breaks Silence On Pub Attack Incident

Conor McGregor has been circulating all over the internet lately and it hasn’t been due to dominating octagon performances. Mcgregor spoke about video footage from TMZ that arose last week of himself punching an elderly male at a Pub in Dublin, Ireland. On Thursday, Conor sat down with ESPN’s Ariel Helwani in an exclusive interview where the incident was the main topic.

A transparent McGregor was shown in a salmon-colored button-down shirt and slicked-back hair. The tone of Conor’s voice was one of complete accountability and remorse and he explained his side of the story to Ariel. Although the incident actually occurred five months ago, Conor still took ownership in his role played during the incident.

“I was in the wrong,” said a passionate McGregor. “That man deserved to enjoy his time in the pub without having it end the way it did. I tried to make amends and I made amends back then. But it doesn’t matter. I was in the wrong.”

“I must come here before you and take accountability and take responsibility. I owe it to the people that have been supporting me. I owe it to my mother, my father, my family. I owe it to the people who trained me in martial arts. That’s not who I am. That’s not the reason why I got into martial arts or studying combat sports. The reason I got into it was to defend against that type of scenario.”

McGregor reacted to seeing the incident for himself

McGregor stated Seeing the incident was like a “dagger to my heart.” Helwani then asked if Conor indeed punched the man due to the video footage being grainy.

“What happened was a little hazy to me also, it was many moons ago like I said. I have been making amends to make it not happen again and to be better. To be a better father, to be a better human, to be a better role model for these kids.”

The more Conor spoke, the more he admitted that he needs to change his ways. He went on to convey the importance of being a martial artist. He highlighted fighting for respect, redemption, and retribution as the things that make him the man he is.

McGregor Speaks On Potential Anger Issues

I need to just stop reacting to the bait,” McGregor replied in reference to breaking a fan’s cell phone in Miami.

“People are trying to bait me into things. Am I the fish or am I the whale? I must be calm, I must be zen. I must lead by example. There’s (are) so many people looking up to me. How can I react in this way? I need to get a hold of this and, like I said, I’m working very hard to do this. I’m taking the necessary steps and I have been on a great trajectory.”

Lastly, McGregor spoke on his need to get his life back on track. He listed fans, family, and Ariel Helwani himself as people that have wanted the best for him. Whatever McGregor is going through, it seems like he currently has the right mindset. If his claims are true that he is rectifying his wrongs, we can expect to see a hungry McGregor on the road to redemption. True or not, its good to see McGregor speak about the incidents, and own up like a man.
