Conor McGregor goes after Justin Gaethje after comments were made about a possible title shot.
Justin Gaethje would not be happy to see Conor McGregor jump the line at welterweight. Since coming to the UFC back in 2017, Gaethje has been a fan favorite and right there in title talks. He earned a title shot after an impressive four-fight winning streak and an interim title. He did not win that first title shot and has been working hard to get back there again. Now it seems that McGregor could be closer to a title shot than Gaethje even having lost his last three of four.
McGregor is coming off a two-year absence from fighting. He will be making his return later this year when he faces Michael Chandler. The fight will be contested at 170 pounds and with a win, he could be thrust into a welterweight title shot. This does not sit well with Gaethje.
“Would I quit if Conor won and they gave him a title shot? Probably,” he told ESPN. “That’s how hurt I would be by the actions of the company I represent. But that’s out of my control. I just really hope that doesn’t happen.”
Conor McGregor takes aim at Justin Gaethje following remarks
This clap back by Gaethje did not sit well with McGregor who took his own shot on social media.
“This braindead fool got a title shot off of one single win and it was vs chandler,” he wrote. “Yet he will quit and retire if I get the same thing. Classic Gaethje bird brain. #Jackass Two Title attempt. No wins. #geathje.”
In a recent interview, Gaethje spoke about how he feels he will never fight McGregor. He thinks McGregor chooses his fights and strategically chose to avoid him. However, that was before this interaction and perhaps a new feud is being awakened. Gaethje knows that a fight with McGregor comes with big pay and if the opportunity should present itself he would be more than happy to shut him up.
