Colby Covington re-visited his intense rivalry with Jorge Masvidal.

Before becoming UFC superstars, Covington and Masvidal were close friends who trained and lived together. Unfortunately, their personalities led to a falling out over the last few years, culminating in a highly-anticipated fight in the UFC 272 main event on March 5, 2022.

Covington dominated Masvidal throughout twenty-five minutes, leading to a one-sided unanimous decision win (50-44, 50-45, and 49-46). In the aftermath of their fight, ‘Gamebred’ tracked down ‘Chaos’ in Miami and physically attacked him at a restaurant.

Nearly two years later, Covington appeared on the PBD Podcast with Patrick Bet-David to discuss his disappointing performance at UFC 296 and other various topics. When asked about his rivalry with Masvidal, ‘Chaos’ had this to say:

“I beat him up. I gave him the 50-43 with a soda. It was the easiest fight of my career. I can’t believe what they paid me to beat that backstabbing bum up. He’s a backstabber. He’s a guy that as soon as I started rising up in the ranks, that’s when it was an issue. That’s when his ego came in. He’s like, ‘No, f*ck you, Colby. I’d fight my mom for money, so I’m for sure gonna fight you. We’re gonna fight one day.’ He just started throwing me under the bus for no reason.”

Covington continued by giving a brief explanation as to why his rivalry with Masvidal escalated:

“We lived together for a couple years. I lived on his wife’s couch, Marissa, the woman who he has two kids with that he doesn’t pay child support to because he’s a piece of sh*t deadbeat dad like I said. So, that’s why he got offended because I hit the truth. He could do whatever he wanted to me in that UFC Octagon legally for twenty-five minutes. He couldn’t do sh*t. That was the easiest fight. I didn’t even break a sweat in that fight. I was laughing at the end of it.”

Colby Covington says he was talking trash to Jorge Masvidal throughout their fight

Colby Covington shut down Jorge Masvidal’s game plan at UFC 272 by utilizing his superior grappling skills. Although he didn’t get a finish, Covington made a statement by dominating Masvidal and allegedly talking trash during the fight.

During the previously mentioned interview on the PBD Podcast, Covington had this to say about what he was whispering to Masvidal in the Octagon:

“I’ve already handled my business in the UFC. People saw in front of the world what I did to him. I played with him. I was slapping him. I was saying, ‘Who’s your daddy, b*tch?’…In his ear, I was whispering, he couldn’t do anything. I was whispering, letting him know, hey, I’m your big brother. I’m your daddy. Who’s your daddy, Jorge? I’m levels above him in every sense of the word, politically, spiritually.”

Colby Covington endured a lengthy layoff following his win against Jorge Masvidal. On December 16, Covington challenged Leon Edwards for the welterweight title in the main event of UFC 296.

Despite the many promises he made, ‘Chaos’ failed to deliver on fight night, leading to a unanimous decision for Edwards.

It’s unclear what’s next for Covington, but the controversial welterweight hopes to fight Stephen ‘Wonderboy’ Thompson in early 2024.
