Colby Covington’s self-belief remains unshakable. As a former interim UFC welterweight champ, he’s always pushed his boundaries in and out of the Octagon. Lately, he’s faced a different challenge—being sidelined for over a year-and-a-half while the division’s top landscape shifted.

Colby Covington is preparing for UFC 296 without getting swept up in emotions. Despite the criticism aimed at the UFC’s decision, Covington’s third chance at the undisputed welterweight title is set for next month at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

After two unsuccessful attempts against Kamaru Usman, “Chaos” is now eyeing the title held by the man who ended Usman’s reign, Leon Edwards. Edwards claimed victory last August at UFC 278 with a dramatic head kick that left Usman stunned. The post-fight scene was emotional, but Covington insists that such reactions are just reactions to the moment.

Covington’s Approach to the Anticipated Title Moment

In a recent chat with UFC.com’s Gavin Porter, Covington shared his thoughts on the upcoming showdown against Edwards on December 16.

Confident in his upcoming victory, the former interim titleholder assured fans they shouldn’t anticipate any teary-eyed moments, already picturing the welterweight gold secured around his waist.

“You’re not going to see me crying or freaking out like I didn’t expect to do it,” Covington said. “I’m prepared and I know that I am the best fighter on planet Earth at welterweight in the UFC right now. It’s going to be like I expected it.

“This is not about the destination; it’s about the journey to me. I’ve had a great journey and I’ve developed a lot,” Covington continued. “No one has seen what I’ve been doing and how hard I’ve been working every single day with the blood, sweat, and tears I’ve put in. December 16, the world is in for a rude awakening. All my haters are going to be so salty.”

Covington returns to the spotlight after 21 months since his last fight, where he secured a win over the now-retired Jorge Masvidal after his loss to Usman.

His chance at the title has sparked criticism, with some, like Belal Muhammad, expressing they are more deserving. Nonetheless, “Chaos” aims to capitalize on this opportunity by challenging Edwards and breaking his divisional dominance in the upcoming match.
