Despite losing his belt due to missed weight at UFC 274, Charles Oliveira is still highly likely to become the other half in the fight for the vacant UFC lightweight title. With Conor McGregor edging closer to his UFC return, the Brazilian couldn’t help but think about how much money he would make if he opts for “The Notorious.”

The most important thing first

In a recent interview with ESPN Brazil, Oliveira, who has previously come clean about his desire to face McGregor, doubled down on the subject once again.

According to “Do Bronx,” Regardless of how the UFC matchmakers view it, he would still push for a title fight with McGregor as much as possible because it’s always a huge payday.

“It would be a very good fight for me,” Oliveira said of a title fight with McGregor. “It would put a lot of money in my pocket, and [at this moment] that’s the most important thing. And it would also be really good for my legacy, for me to have in my story. Regardless, if he’s coming from defeat or not, he’s a guy who’s made history, so I think it would be great, but it’s not just up to me. If it were up to me, this fight would already be happening.”

“I have a daughter to raise,” he pointed out. “Everyone wants to fight Conor, it’s not just me who wants to. Everyone knows that fighting Conor is very profitable. I’m talking about money. And Conor knows that, that everyone wants to fight him.”

Thoughts about Islam

As things stand, Oliveira has beaten all the top-five guys in the current UFC lightweight rankings except Islam Makhachev. Many are convinced that Makhachev is now ready for a crack at the title but Oliveira reckoned he needs “at least one more fight before trying for the belt.”

For “Do Bronx,” Makhachev is a commendable fighter but he is still way ahead in terms of overall attributes.

“I’ve never ran from a fight and the lightweight champion is called Charles Oliveira,” he explained. “Is Islam a very tough guy? Yep. Did he fight big names? No. He’s on a big streak, but who did he fight?”

“I don’t care about his fighting style,” he continued. “What he does best, I do 10 times more. If he thinks that putting down everyone [on the ground] he [fought] is the same thing as [fighting] Charles Oliveira, he is completely wrong.”

However, Oliveira is not closing the door for the Dagestani fighter. As per the Brazilian, if Makhachev wins another bout, he’ll consider facing him in his home country of Brazil, Makhachev’s home soil Russia, or anywhere else in the world.
