Chris Barnett reached a new level of stardom at UFC 279.
“Beast Boy” has had his moments inside the UFC Octagon, flashback to where he knocked out Gian Villante with a spinning back kick. The flashy kicks stayed home for this one, but Barnett brought some more heat to Las Vegas, Nevada.
Early Adversity
Of course, it takes two to tango and Barnett’s opponent Jake Collier did just that. Both heavyweights engaged in a fire-fight when the first bell rang. It would be like Rock’em Sock’em robots as Collier and Barnett swung for the fences. It’d be Collier who got the better of Barnett in round one, nearly taking him out with his power.
Barnett would weather the storm of Collier, being able to see the light of the second round… but just barely. Barnett’s bruised left eye was almost completely closed and things weren’t looking good for the fan-favorite fighter. But, after one quick check-up by the doctor, the show would go on.
Barnett Breaks Through!
Round two would be absolute redemption for the 36 year-old Barnett. “Beast Boy” bounced back from a beating to give Collier a run for his money.
Barnett would stun Collier on the feet and Collier would shoot in for a takedown. The attempt would be denied by Barnett who took control of Collier on the ground. There on, Barnett would show no mercy with his ground and pound. Shot after shot, Barnett didn’t slow down.
Eventually after an onslaught of strikes to Collier, the referee called the fight off. Barnett would do a flip on the canvas to the cheering crowd. Chris Barnett had done it again.
