Everything that happened at UFC 279 with Khamzat Chimaev is because of Paulo Costa.

That’s according to “The Eraser” who took credit for taking everything away from Chimaev, including his main event slot against Nate Diaz.

Chimaev came in heavy for his scheduled welterweight headliner with Diaz which resulted in him being pulled from the fight.

Eventually, one of the most historic main card shuffles took place with Chimaev eventually facing Kevin Holland in the co-main event while Diaz took on Tony Ferguson.

As for what led to Chimaev’s misfortunes? Costa claims it was him.

“Chimaev, because he’s on [a] high,” Costa said on The MMA Hour. “I stole some of his high. I stole his sleep, I stole his cap, I stole his main event fight. I stole everything.”

Costa notably had a run-in with Chimaev and his team during fight week as they had to be separated.

Since then, the Brazilian has been hinting at fighting Chimaev in the future and during his appearance, he dared Chimaev to move up to 185 pounds and face him.

“Chimaev, you need to do something, motherf*****,” he said. “I stole everything that you had. Your hat, I stole your night’s sleep, I stole your weigh-in. You are disturbed, so crazy. ‘I cannot do this, I will die.’ So I think I need to fight that guy.”

Paulo Costa: Chimaev Missed Weight Because Of Me

As for why Chimaev missed weight, UFC president Dana White claimed health issues during his weigh cut forced the doctors to tell him to stop cutting weight.

Costa, however, believes his confrontation with Chimaev was what led to the events that unfolded.

“For sure, [he missed weight because of me],” Costa said. “Because he became so angry, so stressed, and he almost – he gave up. He gave up. He missed the weight for almost eight pounds, almost nine.

“He gave up, for sure. I stole everything from him. Hype, soul, night of sleep, main event, his hat – do something.”
