A fight with proven Russian powerhouse Sergei Pavlovich? Tom Aspinall is all for it.
After recovering from injuries sustained in his last fight against Curtis Blaydes, Aspinall is nearing his return (which could be at UFC London this July). Ahead of his attempt at a rebound, Aspinall has been keeping up with his fellow heavyweights.
Aspinall On Pavlovich’s Last Fight
Of course, one heavy hitter on display recently was Sergei Pavlovich, who knocked out Aspinall’s former foe Blaydes just two weeks ago. Aspinall paid close attention to the raw power of Pavlovich.
“I watched all the heavyweights closely. I know all, especially the top 10, top five, because I’m around that area,” Aspinall said on ‘Believe You Me’. “Pavlovich couldn’t miss (hitting) Curtis, simple as that, couldn’t miss him. There wasn’t a punch that he threw that didn’t land near enough clean. It just looked like a bad night for Curtis out there. He didn’t seem to get anything going. His game plan seems to be maybe a little bit off.
“I don’t know, you just just have those nights sometimes, don’t you? It’s just not going right. And it seems to be one of them. He just seemed to not be able to get things going and Pavlovich just couldn’t miss. Every punch he threw know near-landed clean and yeah, that’s the way it went.”
Aspinall: ‘Pavlovich Is Very Good’
Aspinall has been booked to fight Pavlovich twice in his UFC run, however the Russian withdrew both times from the bout. Perhaps the third time will be a charm should they sign to meet again sometime soon.
“I was supposed to fight him twice before, so I know a lot about Pavlovich as well. Both times he pulled out. I’m not saying that he is scared of me or anything like that. That’s just the way he goes sometimes,” Aspinall said of Pavlovich’s previous withdrawals against him.
“I think Pavlovich is very good. I thought he was good a long time like before I was supposed to fight him a couple of years ago and I thought he was good then. And I think he’s good now. I think he’s really good and yeah, I definitely think we’re gonna fight in the future, 100%.”
Should the UFC make Tom Aspinall vs. Sergei Pavlovich next?
