Stipe Miocic is confident he could beat Jon Jones and made it clear that he is not keeping Tom Aspinall or anybody who wants to fight “Bones” waiting.

It’s the UFC’s decision

Speaking to Shak MMA, Miocic explained that while he understands how frustrating it is for Aspinall to not get a shot at Jones because of him, it’s not his call to keep him waiting like that. The former heavyweight champion pointed out that those naysayers insisting that narrative should blame the UFC as they could’ve made his fight with Jones happen in the past but they chose to book a different match.

Miocic concluded that regardless of what Aspinall and fans say, “Bones” is the only opponent he wants to fight.

“I get it. I’d feel the same way but I’m not taking anything away from him,” “The UFC can do what they want,” Miocic explained. “It is what it is. There’s only one guy I want to fight, it’s Jon Jones. But at the same time, the UFC can pick who they want. People don’t know this but there were a couple of other times where I was ready to fight and they gave him another guy. What am I supposed to do? I’m not holding up any division like everyone says.

“I don’t care. Do what you want and stop crying. I’m not saying he’s crying. I’m just saying like fans and stuff like that,” he continued.

Still at the top of his game

It has been almost three and a half years since Miocic last competed. Nevertheless, he is certain that his skills and mentality remain the same.

“I am very competitive and will never lose it. It’s in my DNA. I love what I do and have the best coaches in the world to prepare me whenever the fight comes up,” he said.

Miocic then admitted that his motivation for beating Jones is to prove that “Bones” is very “beatable” and to silence critics saying he couldn’t do it.

“Everyone thinks he’s going to beat my ass,” he added. “I don’t like being told that. I like shutting people up. He’s beatable. I know he is. Anyone is beatable and I will be the first to do this. I think I have a style that doesn’t match well with his style. If the shoe’s on the other foot, it could be me as well. He does a lot of good things. He’s good with his distance, his leg kicks and on the ground. I’m good at making it a fight. I’m technical but I can also make it into the brawl and make him feel really uncomfortable as does he. I think it depends on who does what they like. Unfortunately, I don’t like being told what to do so I’m going to do what I want to.”

Miocic will get what he wants as UFC president Dana White reaffirmed that he will be Jones’ next title challenger. As for Aspinall, White said it is only proper to let Aspinall face the winner of Jones vs. Miocic. However, things could still change in the future now that Aspinall is already booked against Curtis Blaydes at UFC 304.
