Aljamain Sterling is brimming with confidence ahead of his featherweight debut against Calvin Kattar at UFC 300. As early as now, “Funk Master” could tell that he would win via submission before the fight reaches the final round.

Aljo’s prediction

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Sterling revealed that he is not gonna be rushing things up in his maiden fight at 145. Instead, he would let things happen as it is and react to it. However, the former bantamweight champ thinks he could secure a submission win in the 1st or 2nd round.

“I feel like it could be first or second round [submission] if we were to get in that position,” Sterling predicted. “But honestly, I’m not gonna go hunting for a takedown right out of the gate. I kind of want to get my feet wet a little bit, just feel the power, feel the pushback, and then kind of go from there and just feel the fight. Let the fight come to me and not rush it, do what I normally used to do: take my time and just see what comes to me, versus trying to push the action to go on vacation. Like, now I’m out of vacation mode. I’m ready to scrap, I’m ready to compete. I [have] got a burnout break. So I just feel like I have a fresh lease on my career.”

Ready for his return

Sterling previously confessed to drinking and smoking while on break following his title fight loss to Sean O’Malley at UFC 292. Admittedly, Aljo felt that it took a toll on his body. However, “Funk Master” is now certain that he is now laser-focused on getting back in tip-top shape and bouncing back stronger.

Sterling will face Kattar at UFC 300 which will take place on April 13, 2024. Kattar is coming off back-to-back losses and will hope to get back to his winning ways by beating the former bantamweight champ.
