Alex Volkanovski has updated fans on how he’s feeling before he shares the Octagon with Ilia Topuria.

Volkanovski is coming off a devastating head kick knockout loss to UFC lightweight champion Islam Makhachev in their rematch back in October at UFC 294. It was Volkanovski’s second loss under the UFC banner and the second time he’s been finished in his pro MMA career.

There was concern for “The Great” as he wanted to return in January, which many felt would’ve been far too soon. He’ll settle for a UFC featherweight title defense against Topuria on February 17.

Alex Volkanovski Has An Update On His Health

In a new video posted on his YouTube channel, Alex Volkanovski shared an update on how he’s feeling after the brutal knockout loss to Islam Makhachev.

“Just had my first spar,” Volkanovski revealed. “So, obviously I had to follow all the protocols, concussion back to training. So, followed all the protocols to a tee, and you know, obviously, each session no symptoms, kept it rolling. Now we’re able to go there. Felt real good. No knocks, no symptoms still. So, we rolling. We’re gonna keep this baby rolling. Felt real good. No knocks, no symptoms still. So, we’re rolling… Very, very happy with it. Very thankful for the team behind me,” Volkanovski continued. “(My team and doctors have) dealt with thousands of concussions, so they made sure I followed (protocols) to a tee. Mate, I feel great. Was able to train the whole way through. We’ve still got plenty of time before we even get into camp. Now I get to ease into a full training schedule.”

Volkanovski will be putting his 145-pound championship on the line for the sixth time when he meets Topuria inside the Honda Center in Anaheim, California. Volkanovski has yet to suffer a loss at featherweight. Topuria is undefeated with a pro record of 14-0. Volkanovski has defeated the likes of Max Holloway, Jose Aldo, and Brian Ortega to name a few. Topuria is coming off a “Fight of the Night” performance in his unanimous decision victory over Josh Emmett.
