  • Renato Moicano is not happy with how Sal D’Amato scored Ian Garry vs. Geoff Neal at UFC 298
  • The lightweight contender weighed in on Alexander Volkanovski’s underwhelming performance agaisnt Ilia Topuria

Renato Moicano shared his honest thoughts on Ian Garry’s latest win and Alexander Volaknovski’s shocking KO loss to Ilia Topuria at UFC 298.

Sal did it again

Speaking his YouTube channel, Moicano said that “The Future” did not put on a convincing performance to get the split decision win over Geoff Neal. The Brazilian also pointed out that judge Sal D’Amato’s 30-27 scorecard in favor of Garry was ridiculous and it only proves that he is really a terrible judge.

“I think it was a close fight, the fight could go either way, but I saw Geoff Neal winning the first two rounds,” Moicano began. “Geoff Neal, he was using the pressure, he was pressuring against the cage, he was throwing big shots even though Ian Garry, maybe he landed the better shots, the cleaner shots, he was always fighting backwards. I don’t know, he was not looking good to me on that fight.”

“Another thing that I want to say is Sal D’Amato gave 30-27 to Ian Garry,” he added. “Always Sal D’Amato and that’s unacceptable. That was a close fight, but you could not see definitely, the first or the second round were very close, but 30-27 is just insane for that fight. Judge D’Amato always doing bad judgement.”

Volk was scared

As for the main event, Moicano reiterated that he is a huge Volkanovski fan but “The Great” looked scared right from the get-go. He also noted that Volk could’ve matched up better against Topuria if he relied on leg kicks and clinches. However, Moicano concluded that it was never the case as Volkanovski didn’t look like he was the champion in that fight.

“Since the beginning, he’s calm like we know he was a great boxer, everybody knows that but to be on that stance against Volkanovski and he was picking the shots like he was very calm, his head movement was great since the first round. Since the beginning of the fight. he looked like he was the champion. Volkanovski in my opinion, he looked scared since the first round. He was looking scared he was looking out of his place and Topuria show a beautiful performance,” Moicano assessed.

“I was expecting Volkanovski to try to clinch more because the guy is young very good boxer,” he continued. “I was expecting Volkanovski to not shoot right away because of course he would be defending the take down but try to clinch, use the punches to clinch, try a single leg to make Ilia Topuria tired but we saw in Volkanovski, he was having doubts and I think the way to beat Topuria is with the leg kicks because it’s not going to be easy because of course he has a lot of power, his boxing base is amazing but he is a little bit low to have to generate power and I thought Volkanovski would use that more but he was using the kicks were not that good.”

Aside from Moicano, former bantamweight champ TJ Dillashaw also insisted that Volk looked scared of Topuria’s power all throughout the fight.

As it stands, Volkanovski is yearning for a quick rematch with Topuria. On the other hand, Garry has got his eyes on a showdown with Colby Covington for his next fight.
