Aleksander Rakic Talks Potential Future Fight With The Champ

The UFC’s Light Heavyweight division has seen an uprising in fresh faces, in recent months. Last weekend, we saw yet another rising star, this one in the form of Aleksandar Rakic.

Rakic came crashing into most fans view, with his UFC Stockholm knockout over Jimi Manuwa. This perfectly timed head kick sent the veteran into another galaxy. It easily because a contender for knockout of the year.

Following the fight, at the post-fight press conference, the conversation naturally shifted towards Light Heavyweight Champion Jon Jones. With Jones having been as dominate as he has been, and the lack new names up until this point, it does not take much to reach a title shot. Although still a few fights away, Rakic is already figuring out what he could do against the champ.

“I’m an all-around fighter like him, so it would be a great fight to fight him. I watched Jon Jones for a long time and I think what I can say now, the advantage I have over him is my footwork and my speed in the punches.

I think I’m much faster than him and I have more power to finish a fight with one punch, and the footwork.”

Aleksandar Rakic is still very much aware that he has a little more to prove, before getting his shot at Jones. That doesn’t stop his confidence level, though.

“I’ve been working so hard, not just for this fight, but every fight for my whole career, I’ve been working for this. This is my place and I’m born for it, to be a champion one day.”

Jones is currently expected to face Thiago Santos at UFC 239. So it seems, Aleksandar Rakic has a ways to go.
